We rehearse once a week, on Friday evenings in church. Our choir is made up of singers of all ages and experience, and we enjoy both discovering new music and performing old favourites from our wide repertoire. New voices are always very welcome. We sing in “parts” – Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass – so anyone with music reading skills is particularly welcome – especially men for the Tenor and Bass parts! But we believe everyone is a singer; there’s no difficult audition process to go through.
Just come and meet us and enjoy “making a joyful noise”!
Christ Church Choir supports the singing at our Sunday services. As well as singing the harmony in our hymns, we often sing an anthem on our own, a special song about the part of the Church's year we happen to be in. Christmas and Easter give us a chance to lead a whole service of anthems, hymns and readings, being the Christmas Carol Service and "Palms to Thorns". Once a year we invite anyone to join us in making up a Festival Choir to sing a big concert piece. In recent concerts we performed "Godspell" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" with about forty voices and the accompaniment of a full band. On Sundays we sing to the accompaniment of both our pipe organ (for traditional hymns) and a state-of-the-art digital keyboard with rhythm section if it's a more modern song. Christ Church Choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music - the national organisation which supports music in churches of all denominations.
Christ Church is very fortunate in having a great depth of musical resources, guided by our Director of Music, Peter Elliott.
